Previously: Bulletin 316: Fundraising appeal; THANK YOU, Dec 12, 2022

Dear friends and colleagues --

As a result of generous donations from many of you, the Study Group is again able to offer internships to qualified, committed people who want to work and learn with us.

We have a great deal of experience and knowledge regarding all aspects of U.S. nuclear weapons policies from the technical to the political, and of warhead operations from the labs and production plants to the halls of Washington, where we have led several hundred briefings over the past decade and a half. Interested parties can read more about us here, and see our proposed 2023 program in general outline here (and with one or two further details here).

We so often hear people say, "I don't know what to do." We however see a rich harvest of ripe, low-hanging fruit. There are not enough hours in the day to harvest more than a fraction of it.

We enjoy the support of a wonderful community of people, which has been an important element in the success of past internships. We work hard but we also have some fun here. Our people come first.

We will assign work to interns in three broad areas: research and writing; media and communications; and outreach and organizing. Work will be commensurate with education and skills.

Interns have come to us from a wide variety of backgrounds. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, must be able to speak and write English well, and must be able to make a 3 month commitment. Many interns who are students may be able to arrange academic credit.

For interns who do not already have their own housing, we will scramble to secure accommodations, which will involve responsibilities to hosts. Interns will receive a $500/month stipend for personal expenses, plus room and board.

It is likely to be difficult to accept non-U.S.-citizen applicants, as much as we would like to do so. It appears that a type "M" visa would be required, which might not be easy to get at the Los Alamos Study Group.

If you think you might be interested in applying, please send us a resume and a letter telling us why you are interested. At present we have a rolling application period for internships this coming winter, spring and summer.

Greg Mello, for the Los Alamos Study Group
