It is a pivotal time in nuclear history, nationally and internationally. It is also a pivotal time in New Mexico’s nuclear history, a time when our state is drifting toward deeper identification with its military-nuclear industries. Our state is now America’s primary workshop for nuclear weapons; 41% of the U.S. budget for nuclear warheads and bombs is spent here. The managers of our labs, acting on their own and through “our” elected representatives, push each year for higher weapons budgets, new weapons, new targets, and new factories to build them in. We are resisting these developments and we would like you to join us and support our work!

There are several ways to do this. See below for several options! One way is to mail a check to our office at: Los Alamos Study Group, 2901 Summit Place NE, Albuquerque, NM, 87106. Or contribute by credit card through PayPal Giving Fund (PPGF) here. PPGF covers all fees.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that the US will spend $1.242 trillion on nuclear weapons over the coming 30 years. With ~118 million US households, this works out to $351 per US household per year. It does not include environmental cleanup of the nuclear warhead complex.

Study Group board member and former senior Department of Energy official Robert Alvarez notes that if legacy costs such as tearing down buildings and cleaning up contaminated sites (to some degree -- full cleanup is impossible) are included, the bill comes to $1.74 trillion, or $492 per household per year.

What if just 1% of U.S. households gave as much or more to fight against nuclear weapons as we all pay to promote and build them?
