LASG's 2024 End-of-year fundraising letter
Despite the evident dangers and obstacles, we are excited about the opportunities we see in 2025. We hope you will join our work and help sustain and grow it over the coming year.
These are no longer “normal” times – or rather, the “new normal” is all-too-rapidly becoming one of growing global instability and war. Here in the propaganda-addled U.S., we need to wake others up, not just to the dangers blowing back on our country from our actions abroad, but also to the reality of a voracious national security state that creates and feeds on these dangers. To quote musician Roger Waters, we are in "an existential battle for the soul of the human race." To win this battle we need, as Einstein said, “active participation in the fight against war and everything that leads to it.”
That “we” is not somebody else. It’s us. When we participate in the fight against war and nuclear weapons, something fresh and new comes into being. We change. We leave behind the war culture that takes our passivity as assent. We become part of a community of resistance and renewal. We in New Mexico have a uniquely powerful location at the center of the U.S. nuclear warhead complex. In the fight against nuclear weapons and war, we have the power of proximity, if we use it.
Since 1989 the Los Alamos Study Group community – our staff and board, volunteers, interns, and supporters – has consistently provided leadership on nuclear weapons issues in New Mexico and in some ways nationally. Our work includes research, scholarship, and writing, education and lobbying of nuclear decision makers in Washington, providing an information clearinghouse for journalists, local organizing, litigating, and advertising. In these difficult times, when entrenched forces in favor of aggression and militarism are dominant in government, we also provide an informed anti-war, pro-peace voice here in New Mexico, and beyond. You can read more about us at https://lasg.org/who.htm.

Become a sustaining donor!
Consider becoming a sustaining donor to the Study Group and contributing a specified amount each month. Being able to depend on a regular income of a certain amount in sustaining donations each month provides organizations such as ours a chunk of stability, especially if other periodic donations are on a temporary downward trend. Just fill in the form here and mail it back to us! If it is more convenient you can also set up a recurring donation through PayPal for a small fee.
You, our loyal friends and members, are the only ones who can reach out to your personal connections, email lists, and social media contacts. Please share this page and our work generally with your contacts and friends.
You can also offer to match others' donations within a specified timeframe, up to an amount you specify. This is a valuable encouragement for others. Again, contact us if you want to do this.
Thank you for your support!
